What is my Day Master?
Of the eight characters in a BaZi chart, one represents you: the Heavenly Stem of your day pillar. In Chinese it is 日主, the Day Master. It is the reference point for everything else in the chart.
How it is found
Every day in the Chinese calendar carries one of sixty stem–branch pairs, cycling continuously since antiquity. The stem of your birth day is your Day Master. Because the cycle turns at 23:00 — the start of the Rat hour — people born late in the evening can have the next day's Day Master, which is why an accurate birth time and true solar time matter.

Strong or gentle?
A Day Master is "strong" when the rest of the chart supports it — the same element, or the element that produces it, especially in the month pillar. It is "gentle" (sometimes translated "weak", which is misleading) when the chart holds more of the elements that drain or control it. Neither is better. A strong Day Master has energy to spend; a gentle one is responsive and does best with good allies and real rest.
FateBook calculates this from all four pillars and tells you which elements balance you — in practical terms, like "more Water: rest, journaling, quiet evenings".
