The Five Elements

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are not substances in BaZi; they are five kinds of movement. Every character in your chart carries one, and their balance describes your temperament.

木Wood

growth, vision, kindness. Restored by time among trees, learning something new, morning walks and fresh starts.

火Fire

warmth, expression, visibility. Restored by sunlight, movement, good company and creative expression.

土Earth

stability, care, trust. Restored by routine, home cooking, tidying your space and regular sleep.

金Metal

clarity, standards, decisiveness. Restored by decluttering, clear boundaries, structured plans and slow breathing.

水Water

insight, adaptability, depth. Restored by rest, journaling, swimming or long baths, and quiet evenings.

Two cycles

Generating: Wood feeds Fire, Fire makes Earth (ash), Earth bears Metal, Metal carries Water (condensation), Water grows Wood. The element before yours supports you; the one after is what you produce.

Controlling: Wood breaks Earth, Earth dams Water, Water quenches Fire, Fire melts Metal, Metal cuts Wood. The element you control is your field of action (work, money); the element that controls you gives structure and pressure.

Dominant and missing elements

When one element dominates a chart, its qualities are loud — abundant Fire tends to be expressive and visible, abundant Water reflective and adaptable. When an element is nearly absent, its qualities take conscious effort: a chart with little Metal may find clarity and boundaries harder; one with little Earth may struggle with routine.

FateBook shows your balance as five bars and names the elements that balance you, with a small practical habit for each.
